Well I Talk About Boys Now…What A Bundle Of Joy!
In all honesty, “Boys” was not my first pick for my FC last night. I’d originally planned to do “Can’t Buy Me Love”, but after spending a little time in practice mode trying to fill up my phrase pie (that sounds unaccountably dirty, doesn’t it? tee hee!) by singing only the word “love” with major vibrato on the song’s 2nd to last phrase (and failing miserably), I realized this was not a task to be undertaken with yet another sinus/throat infection coming on, so I put that song back on the shelf for a later date and went with my 2nd choice instead. Turns out, that was an EXCELLENT decision!
Initially though, “Boys” had its own share of headaches for me to deal with. It’s definitely not a song that gets picked a lot, and I’d actually never even heard the song before the first time I played through Story mode last month! The first few minutes of my session were pretty much flail city, but once I familiarized myself with the tune things started falling into place quite nicely. At around the 14-minute mark, I completed my first FC with a score of 125,488, tieing all the 1st place-holders on the ScoreHero leaderboards. Clearly, we were all using Vickie’s 2/sk2, 2/sk2/, 2sk1 path! Since the actual FC came so quickly, I decided to go into practice mode, clean up my shaky vocals (especially on the song’s opening phrase, where I kept singing “I” way higher than charted), and get a better video take to upload to YouTube. When I returned to Quickplay though, things got interesting…
You see, during my first FC, I’d squeezed 1040 points out of my 2nd Beatlemania activation, leaving me with 83,040 points after completing the phrase during which it ended. Since so many people – including legendary squeezers like RJUCPU & Iggy-Sparks – had earned the same final score I had, I assumed that this was the maximum amount of points you could squeeze out of that phrase. On my first full run after returning from practice mode though, I squeezed 1092 points from that same activation! Truly, I goggled! Sadly, I only scored a Great on the song’s final phrase (CHOKE!), so I didn’t beat my previous best score, but armed with the knowledge that there were more points to be gained from that 2nd activation, I decided to soldier on. While I never managed the same lofty 1092 point squeeze, I WAS eventually able to complete an FC after earning 1084 points during my 2nd bout of Beatlemania, handily earning me the top spot over all others, on both ScoreHero & XBL! Yes, for however brief this shining moment may be, I am truly #1 on “Boys”! Squeeeeeeeeeeee!
