Everything Has Got To Be Just Like You Want It To-oo-oo-oo-oo-oo-oo

September 30, 2009 at 10:29 pm (Rock Band) (, , , , , , , , , , )

If you’ve read any of my recent posts, you’ll realize that I have a pretty big competitive streak. Of course, generally I don’t allow it to overrule my common sense, but last night I admit my efforts to improve my FC score on “Dig A Pony” got a bit out of hand. But but but, there was a good reason for that (well, in my mind it was a good reason anyway). Let me explain…

Turn Off Your Mind Relax And Float Downstream…

September 29, 2009 at 8:50 pm (Rock Band) (, , , , , , , , , )

Another stuffed-up day, another marathon session trying to squeeze more points out of the song I decided to FC. This time around, it was the “Within You Without You / Tomorrow Never Knows” mashup off of the “Love” album. Every time I sing this song I find myself wishing that it was just a straight rendition of “Tomorrow Never Knows”, but I guess there’s really nothing I can do about that!

Getting So Much Better All The Time

September 28, 2009 at 7:42 pm (Rock Band) (, , , , , , , , , , )

I spent most of yesterday lounging on my sofa, trying to recuperate from the nasty cold that’s been plaguing me since Tuesday night. Bored out of my head but barely able to walk, I decided to troll for ranked vox duels in TB:RB, streaming all the while. By the time I finally gave up on finding any more opponents, I’d been broadcasting for over 10 hours! “Getting Better” had popped up as a duel song maybe 5 times, and I figured that I’d improved enough at singing it over the course of the day (despite my continuing stuffiness) to make it my FC pick for the night.

You Say You Want A Revolution…

September 27, 2009 at 7:52 pm (Rock Band) (, , , , , , , , , , )

Considering the fact that I STILL can’t breathe through my nose properly, in addition to the trouble I had with the song’s outro phrases in practice mode a few days ago, I was pleasantly surprised by how easy it was for me to FC “Revolution”. (Ack! Sneezing fit! DayQuil, why do you fail me?!) Not only was getting 100% on all phrases a relative breeze, figuring out the timing for the dreaded FRS noted in the (so-far) optimal path (3/, 3/FRS, 4/sk2 by redanteater) came pretty easily as well! Took me just 14 minutes to tie for 1st place on ScoreHero, but I’d audibly mucked-up one of the lines so I spent a few more minutes getting a clean take with the same score. 21 minutes from start to finish, I’m sooooo glad I didn’t have to stress myself out on this one!

Oh Yeah I’ll Tell You Something…

September 26, 2009 at 9:58 pm (Rock Band) (, , , , , , , , , , )

Take a wild guess on how this sentence ends: Last night I was a) still sick, b) exhausted, c) pudding-brained, or d) all of the above. If you guessed d), then DING DING DING, we have a winner! (‘Scuse me, I just sneezed 6 times in a row while writing that last sentence, whoa!) Anyway, I was in no condition to really do “I Want To Hold Your Hand” – or any other song – justice, but by golly I had to try! BTW, has anyone else noticed that this is my 6th TB:RB FC in a row starting with the word “I”? Hmmm. But I digress!

Oompah Oompah Stick It Up Your Jumper!

September 25, 2009 at 10:32 pm (Rock Band) (, , , , , , , , , , )

There’s a reason I do most of my FCs sans company, and last night’s session was a perfect illustration of the reasons for that. I was out to dinner with a new friend but wasn’t feeling well, so we decided to leave the restaurant early but chill at my place for a bit so that we wouldn’t have to cut the evening too short. So it started getting late and I needed my daily vox 100%, but we weren’t quite ready to part ways, so my guest offered to sit quietly while I got my FC of “I Am The Walrus” out of the way.

Well My Heart Went BOOM!

September 24, 2009 at 12:53 am (Rock Band) (, , , , , , , , , , )

I’d just finished hosting a 2-hour PMS/H2O Clan RB2 Vox Duel practice (where Moomoomoo1 spanked me in almost of our matchups – and not just because of my still-hoarse voice, that guy is a BEAST!) when it was time to get the night’s FC out of the way. I’d already considered my remaining TB:RB song options and selected “I Saw Her Standing There” for its straightforward path and Cavern Club setting. I prepared to use NavyCherub’s 3/, 2/, EwBM (Ends with Beatlemania) path, and settled in for what I was certain would be yet another lengthy session spent trying to score 100% on the song, followed by multiple additional runs attempting to squeeze more points out of my activations for a respectable spot on the leaderboards…

She’s So Glad She’s Telling All The World

September 23, 2009 at 8:44 pm (Rock Band) (, , , , , , , , , , )

Had a fantastic time at The Village Pourhouse last night with waaaay too many Rock Band luminaries to mention! After rocking the vox on “Sunday Morning” and “Once” at the bar, my voice was totally shot by the time I got home and prepared to do my daily FC. Torn between “Revolution” and “I Feel Fine”, I sang through each track once in practice mode to see which would be easier to tackle with my compromised abilities. I flailed badly on “Revolution”‘s outro phrases, so “I Feel Fine” won the honor of being the evening’s selection by default.

I Want You…I Want You So Baaaaaad

September 22, 2009 at 7:11 pm (Rock Band) (, , , , , , , , , , )

Felt like giving myself a little bit of a challenge last night so after getting home from a great afternoon/evening with fellow Rock Band addicts SaikoSakura, Joelmic, Smeeguel (+ roomie Almostlucid), Sneezewiz, ElFiPMS, SHPhr34k & RockBandAide I decided to tackle “I Want You (She’s So Heavy) for the day’s FC. Knowing I’d had issues with the song in BQP, particularly with hitting the “She’s so” pitches, I went into practice mode to bone up (heh, I said bone) on those sections before starting my actual session. Once I felt comfortable with my ability to hit those parts consistently, I got down to business in Quickplay.

Yes We’re Going To A Party Party

September 21, 2009 at 10:42 pm (Rock Band) (, , , , , , , , , , )

Spent most of yesterday in Brooklyn at a friend’s rooftop TB:RB party, where we were supposed to sing “Birthday” for our buddy Sneezewiz (for the obvious reason) but couldn’t because the game disc got scratched before he arrived. D’oh! When I got home, I decided to tackle the song for my FC in Sneezy’s honor. Better late than never, right? Following the 3/, 3/ path submitted by JunkDeLuxe, I sang “Birthday” (or at least parts of it) nonstop for almost an hour and 40 minutes before packing it in. The lengthy session wasn’t caused by me not being able to FC the song, but because my dog took a dump just as I finished my best run of the night (about 25 minutes in – got me 10th place on ScoreHero) and I had to scold him to keep him from trying to eat his poop! Stupid poopin’ puppyhead!
